Richmond Region Localities Cooperatively Fund Bike and Pedestrian Projects

On June 6, the RAMPO voted to fund two projects that will significantly improve bicycle and pedestrian transportation in the Richmond Region.

The RAMPO funded planning, design, and community outreach for the development of the Floyd Avenue Bicycle Boulevard. This revolutionary project will significantly enhance the Richmond Region’s biking infrastructure by converting 2.25 miles of Floyd Avenue into a preferred route optimized for bicycle traffic.

The RAMPO also provided funding to build a sidewalk connecting a gap in the transportation network linking neighborhoods, schools, churches, and a community center in the Smoketree Drive area of Chesterfield County.

Reality Check RVAA

On May 14, ULI Richmond hosted RVA Reality Check, a single-day, hands-on, map-based exercise that brought regional leaders and citizens together to build consensus on how and where growth should happen in the Richmond Region.

RRPDC provided the data and maps for the event and RRPDC Executive Director Bob Crum was the concluding speaker of the day.

River Access: Chapel Island Trails and Canoe Put-in coming Spring 2013

The RRPDC is partnering with the City of Richmond to enhance access to 5.8 acres of riverfront land on Chapel Island and create a system of trails, interpretive signage, and a canoe/kayak put-in ramp.

The project will increase access to the James River in the east end of Richmond  and provide wildlife viewing, fishing, walking, and paddling opportunities to a wider community.
