The Richmond Regional Planning District Commission is developing a regional inventory of all historic markers throughout the region.  Staff began the diligent task of photographing and taking a global positioning system (GPS) measurement of all historic markers in the rural portions of the region and developing a GIS database that will hopefully have future web-based applications. The next major task is to collect and map similar data for markers within the urban areas.  The regional inventory may have regional application for the Jamestown 2007 Celebration, and will be a tool for localities and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources.
