Environmental Resources
Richmond Regional PDC staff provides a variety of
environmental planning services for the region's nine localities. This
program is supported in large part by an annual grant from the Virginia
Coastal Zone Management (VCZM) Program at the Virginia Department of
Environmental Quality. Each year, projects include but are not limited
to:
1. Review of environmental permit and review requests
and subsequent notification of affected localities
2. Periodic workshops and technical sessions on
current issues, regulations, legislation, and program developments
3. Attendance of various local and regional committees
4. Researching information requests
In the past several years, RRPDC projects have ranged
from green
infrastructure planning to a study of water and sewer services in
the region's localities. A portion of VCZM grant funds have also been
used to support the development of a
regional existing land use GIS layer and database. RRPDC staff has
also provided support for local implementation of the recently revised
and adopted Virginia Stormwater Management Regulations and the Virginia
Watershed Implementation Plan for the Chesapeake Bay TMDL.
These issues in addition to other pertinent topics are
discussed at regular workgroup meetings of representatives from the
localities in the Richmond Region organized and hosted by the RRPDC.
Each locality designates staff persons from various departments to
attend. For more information about environmental projects at the RRPDC
or the regional environmental workgroup, please contact Sarah Stewart at
