The Transportation Improvement Program (Click here for FAQs on the TIP) provides a four-year program of federal, state, and locally funded transportation projects for which MPO approval is required. Staff prepares the draft four-year list of proposed projects based on submissions by area local governments, VDOT, VDRPT, GRTC, CRAC, and Ridefinders and then conducts a public review process for the proposed RSTP and CMAQ projects and for the draft TIP document. Throughout the year, there are TIP amendments submitted by VDOT, local governments, GRTC, and other transportation agencies which are brought to the Richmond Area MPO's (RAMPO) Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for review. The recommendation made here is forwarded to the MPO for action. Members of RAMPO are responsible for endorsing requests for SAFETEA-LU transportation enhancement program funds. (Updated October 2007) The Richmond Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (RAMPO) took action to prioritize the region’s transportation projects September 27 for submission to the upcoming Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) preallocation public hearing on October 16. The MPO—the region’s federally designated regional transportation planning agency—includes elected officials from the nine surrounding local governments, VDOT and other area transportation agencies. Input into the transportation priorities list is derived from the RAMPO Board members, citizen and elderly groups and from the MPO’s technical committee.
The region’s top priority transportation projects are as follows:
1. Richmond International Airport Expansion and Access Improvements 2. Main Street Station, High-Speed Intercity Rail, GRTC Improvements 3. Route 360 (East of I-295 in Hanover) and Route 10 Widening (Chesterfield) 4. Parham Road/Patterson Avenue Urban Interchange (Henrico) 5. Huguenot Bridge Reconstruction 6. Route 250 Widening from Route 623 to Route 621 (Goochland) The MPO’s other regional priority projects are as follows:
