November 8, 2007 Public Meeting Summary
The Richmond Regional Planning District Commission, which staffs the Richmond Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) held a Public Meeting for the Richmond Regional Mass Transit Study (RMTS) on November 8, 2007. The meeting took place from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at the Children's Museum of Richmond, 2626 West Broad Street in Richmond, Virginia.
The RMTS is a comprehensive planning effort to create a plan of action for the development of a regional mass transit system over the next 10-25 years. It will address all surface public transportation modes; provide recommendations for dedicated, on-going funding programs; provide recommendations for supportive land uses appropriate to enhancing public transportation services; and incorporate the MPO's adopted Human Services Public Transportation Coordination Plan. Currently the study is half-way complete and is analyzing modal alternatives.
Throughout the evening the public had an opportunity to view study exhibits and maps, which included three concepts ranging from existing transit service to significant transit service expansion. Two identical formal presentations were conducted, one at 6:00 PM and the other at 7:00 PM. Both presentations were followed by a question and answer session.
